Kucinich Has Abandoned Ship

Just when I thought the explosion of internet discussion of increased gun control the past couple of days couldn't get any worse, Dennis Kucinich, a man I have admired for his open inquiries into 9/11, chemtrails, his blatant digust for the WTO and Nafta, has decided to abandon ship by creating a piece of legislation that will, get this, BAN the use, possession, sale and transfer of all handguns for civilians. Gun owners, you have been warned. This is not a conspiracy. I checked Mr. K's website, as linked in this article, and it is indeed authentic. He has abandoned ship. And I have thus abandoned my support for him. Looks like I won't be voting in the 2008 Presidential Election. He was the only one I could embrace, even if it was at a cautious distance.

Oh how lovely it is to watch our Constitution continue to be dismantled. One of the reasons for the 2nd Amendment was to allow private citizens to own weapons to use for protection against tyranny and in those events when a militia was not around to do so. (Ever wonder why our military personnel continues to be shipped to far off lands? Perhaps there's more to it than military occupation. Perhaps it is to make us here at home more vulnerable. Think about that one.)

While I consider myself one of those bleeding-heart liberals, I support the right to own firearms. Period. People have the right to protect themselves. Taking away the handguns of private citizens is not going to stop violent behavior. Other means will be used instead. What will Uncle Sam do then? Take away our fireworks? Knives? Ban the right to learn martial arts? Remove from store shelves those ingredients that are used in making explosives?

If there is one thing that would cause civil riots, it is this issue indeed. It is a day I hope to never see transpire.

As a Dennis Kucinich supportor I also found the news sad. I just hope that he relizes that he is letting his heart do his thinking on this one and never introduces such legislation. I personally believe that the gun laws need to be tightened to keep mentally ill and people with a history of violence from ever owning a gun. But to do a complete ban on hand guns is completely assine and will never go anywhere in congress.

i disagree. look at statistics, please. those countries where you cannot buy guns from places like walmart have ridiculously low homicide rates, compared to the U.S. how many americans really want to take part in shootouts? do you really think that if all those students in west virigina had guns, it would have gone better? are you saying that the kids should have taken their guns out of their briefcases and opened fire? or the professor should have pulled a gun out of his desk and started shooting, as well? you're right, though, when you say it will never go anywhere in congress. we are a violent country with a violent past and it looks like we'll have a violent future. i, for one, totally support Dennis Kucinich, but unfortunately, his strength of character will be his downfall. most people, unfortunately, agree with you, and that is why we have the highest handgun death rate in the world. The world!!!!

this is not a gun issue. it is about behavior. it's about our glorification of violence. it's about the oft spouted mantra that american is #1. it's about rugged individualism, or as i recently read, individualism at all cost. it's about isolation and lonliness. it's about being tough. it's about the keep-up-with-the jones's mentality. it's about bullying and intense competition. it's about a capitalistic system that has gone out of control. maybe most importantly, it's about a dysfunctional definining of human value and worth. THESE are the diseases of the american society. it is these social ills that lead to this sort of violent behavior. take away the guns and these people intent on destroying others will find other means. guaranteed. instead of focusing our attention on guns, we NEED to address our social ills. but i do not think even the most progressive of politicians is going to be open to discussing some of these ills given to do so is contrary to the american psyche.

thanks tim. i checked it out--it's just another one of those "all of your suffering is based on your own thoughts" teachings. i'm sceptical of these kinds of teachings--not that they don't offer some wisdom (it's very useful to know what our thoughts are and how to accept, guide and change them)--but that their head is in the sand when it comes to our environment and how that does indeed have an effect on our body, mind and soul. it is simply not about thoughts alone. to do that is just another way of blaming the victim, although in a kinder, gentler way.

I am also saddened and disgusted by Kucinich, whom I supported in the past. If you truly care about the constitution then vote for Ron Paul. Forget all this liberal vs. conservative stuff, it is just used to keep us divided. Right now the major thing we should focus on is our quickly eroding freedoms. He is the only person who will restore the constitution. I am not a gun-owner, but I support the right to bear arms 110% as it is the only thing standing between us and total tyranny. As for VA Tech, if it had not been a gun free zone I think fewer people would have died. We are so conditioned that the police will save us- but they never come until after something bad has happened. We need to be responsible for our own protection. That is how it used to be in times past. There is a town in GA where every household is required to have a gun. That town does not have much crime at all, doubly amazing at it is on the outskirts of Atlanta. Without guns we are all just sitting ducks.

Interesting. As a former republican, I am surprised how pro-gun people on the other side of the scope are. My stance on gun ownership is one issue that I still am conservtative on. It appears I am not alone in this.

I agree this is not a gun issue.

I guess it just shocks me that many statements here would agree with something Lars Larson would say

i think private gun ownership is one of those things that most americans agree should remain legal. where both sides tend to split is how regulated that ownership need be.

ron paul has caught my interest, especially when it comes to his views on the income tax. my only concern is his view on abortion. he says he's pro life and as i understand it, he says the legality of abortion should be left up to the states. that idea scares me--i feel safer knowing there is some federal protection on this issue.
