Trying to Solve The Red Door Property Mystery

The mystery being: why is this company still in business and why haven't they been forced out of town? Given the countless stories I've read online from renters, not to mention Red Door's attempt to buy up property in Washington State, in particular Vashon Island, I've come to the conclusion that, much like our Federal Government and Big Business, Kip Schoning et. al and our City must be in bed together somehow. They have to be. Red Door brings a lot of money to the city through property taxes alone. If Kip Schoning et al were brought down, that leaves a lot of vacant properties in need of ownership. It would be interesting to know how many properties the dude owns. It also wouldn't surprise me if money exchanges hands to hush things up.

It's all about the benjamins, baby. How else to explain why these folks have been allowed to continue renting to unsuspecting renters?

I spoke with someone from the City awhile back, someone I happen to trust (a rare thing I acknowledge). This person told me they could tell me stories about Red Door that would make my head spin. I asked straight out "why are they still allowed to do business in this town?" I received silence in return followed by a quick change of topics. After pondering this conversation for awhile, I came to the conclusion above.

As Mr. Nina always says, "Corruption is everywhere."

Plus, have you noticed how disgusting so many of their homes are!? It's so unfair to our less-fortunate who are forced to rent from these scumbags!

A red door is a sign of good luck in Chinese culture. Growing up, my mom once painted our door red, just for that reason. Now, no one can paint their doors red, as folks will think, "Ugh! Red Door again!"

Yes, so many of his properties look like shit. My spouse and I are renters and in the past, checked out a few of their properties. Grossly over-priced and run down. One home had a front porch AND living room with floors that sloped--so bad I actually got dizzy walking around. Another property was a garage converted to a home--teeny tiny, a sloping roof. The whole thing looked like it was about ready to collapse. All for a bargain at $645/month. Groan...

I agree with you on painting the doors red. I have always loved the idea of a red front door and I know there are people who are not of the red door crowd who paint their doors red. However, now I always think "ugh!" just as you mentioned above.

Hmmm. Maybe the citizens can start a petition to at least have these folks paint their doors a different color. Maybe black?? Or perhaps a big black "X" across each door.

Looks like Schonings personal home is listed for auction on Feb 18, 2008. I guess someone "on his staff" forgot to pay the mortgage.
Maybe this is a little to close to home. I hope he goes through 1/2 the hell he put my family through.
